Hoyt “Bud” Ellenburg

Salem, SC– Hoyt “Bud” Ellenburg, an ambitious man of unwavering loyalty and reliability, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the age of 80. Bud passed peacefully at his home after a short bout with cancer. Born on June 24, 1943, Bud lived a life full of vigor, humor, and a love of sports and family. His quick wit found him friends wherever he went, and his steadfastness and ambition led him to a fulfilling career as a mechanic at Duke Energy for 29 years.

 

Bud was a man of many passions. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, Clemson Football, and the Atlanta Braves. His love for sports was only surpassed by his loved for his beautiful yard and his family. Bud’s commitment to his hobbies mirrored his dedication to his work; he was a steadfast man who could always be relied upon. His strong work ethic and his ability to make friends wherever he went were the cornerstones of his successful career at Duke Energy.

 

Though he is no longer with us, Bud’s spirit lives on in those who survive him: his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda Ellenburg; his son: Justin Duncan; his treasured granddaughter: Paisleigh Duncan; his brothers: Paul, Preston, and Earl Ellenburg; and his sisters: Linda Land and Ovaline Medlin. Bud was preceded in death by his parents: Hoyt and Earline Ellenburg; his brother: James Ellenburg; and his sisters: Shelby Duncan, Annie Durham, and Betty Burton.

 

Bud gave so much to all who knew him, and his memory will forever be held dear in our hearts. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and no formal services will be held. Linda and the family would like to thank everyone who has helped during this time. So many people have reached out and it means the world to them. They would especially like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Foothills for their dedication and help.
