How the Seneca police measure in diversity and inclusion

An internal review is ahead to assess how well relationships in the Seneca Police Department measure up to culturally diverse segments of the population they serve and protect.  The city is announcing the internal review will be kick-started with the hiring of a professional from Spartanburg.  Loretta Smith has more than 25 years as a diversity, equity, and inclusion professional, along with a human resource background.  At first, she is to audit the hiring practices, training practice diversity, and community partnerships involving diverse segments of Seneca’s population.  The city’s diversity and inclusion actions were prompted by protests staged in the city in memory of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement that picked up in the aftermath of Floyd’s death.  According to Seneca’s announcement, a primary goal of the study is to foster an environment within the police department in which all community members feel safe and are treated with respect, fairness and dignity in all inter-actions with the police.
