Horace “Shorty” Blackwell

 

Westminster – Horace Edward “Shorty” Blackwell, 86, husband of the late Ollie Belle Roach Blackwell, passed away Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 at Fleetwood Rehab of Easley.

 

Born and raised in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Furman and Annie May Cobb Blackwell. Shorty worked as a truck driver with the South Carolina Department of Transportation and later was a custodian at Walhalla High School. Shorty enjoyed working in his cabinet shop, was an avid outdoorsman, and was well known for his building of turkey calls, and loved his Lord dearly and was a member of Rider Mountain Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church.

 

Shorty is survived by his brother, Wayne Blackwell and wife Doris of Westminster; sister, Rachel Dickson and the late William of Westminster; daughter in law, Evelyn Blackwell; son in law, Mark Gillespie; four grandchildren, Phillip Gilliam, Danny Blackwell, Melissa Davis and Lisa Burdette; seven great grandchildren, Matthew Blackwell, Tristan Gilliam, Leovanni Gilliam, and Conner Sieniarecki, Brandon Burdette, Scott Burdette, and Dylan Burdette.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by son, David Blackwell; daughter, Martha Ann Gillespie; brothers, Tommy Blackwell, Wallace “Dink” Blackwell, Marvin Blackwell, and Odis Blackwell; two grandchildren, Joey Blackwell and Michael Webb.

 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 15th, 2021 at the Rider Mountain Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends, 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm, Monday, June 14th, 2021, at Sandifer Funeral Home.
