Homicide case headed for trial

A prosecutor says her office is in the process to schedule trial for a Westminster man who was arrested and charged with murder after an early morning shooting death in the winter of 2018 at a rural home south of West Union. According to Deputy Solicitor Lindsey Simmons, the plan is to call South Carolina v. Tyler Mark Broome before the end of the year. Broome, who was wounded in the incident, was charged with murder in the shooting death of Robert Steven McDowell at McDowell’s home on Quarter Horse Trail near highway 11. Sheriff’s officers responded to the home to investigate a call about trespassing. The Sheriff’s Office gave this account: “According to investigators, Broome shot McDowell as McDowell was holding Broome at gunpoint after McDowell discovered Broome on the property. McDowell returned fire and shot Broome….”
