Homeless man shot in Utica

The man wounded in the Monday afternoon shooting in Utica is a homeless man, whose name is being held for safety and health privacy reasons. The Oconee Sheriff’s Office requests the public to pass on any information that can help solve the shooting.  The Sheriff’s Office E-911 Communications Center received a phone call yesterday afternoon around 5:12pm in regards to reports of a male that reportedly had been shot. The man was found by the caller at an address on D Street with blood on part of his clothing.  Deputies and paramedics responded to the scene and rendered first aid, including the use of a tourniquet. Arrangements were made to airlift the patient to AnMed hospital. According to investigators, the victim was homeless man known to frequent the mill hill area. The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive updates on his condition as he remains admitted to the hospital. Investigators also believe the victim may have suffered his injuries at another location on the mill hill and then made his way to D Street.
