Helen C. Lay

Seneca, SC – Helen C. Lay, 83, wife of the late Rufus Lay, of 4099 Brookfield Drive, Seneca, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, while under hospice care at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.

 

A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Lay was the daughter of the late James Madison and Nannie Mae McCall Crowe.  She was a member of Seneca Church of God.

 

Mrs. Lay is survived by her son: Billy D. Grant (Janice) of West Union; daughters: Joyce Ann Grant of Walhalla, Mary E. “Liz” Phillips (Danny) of Seneca and Joan Fretwell (Dwight) of Salem; stepsons: Mike Lay (Robin) of Seneca, James Lay (Robin) of Seneca and David Lay of Seneca; stepdaughters: Linda Lay of Seneca, Sherree Donald (Nick) of Townville and Lisa Hedden (Marcus) of Salem; brother: Rev. Frank Crowe (Judy) of Walhalla; five grandchildren: April Grant (Erin), Jared Grant (Anne), Kelli Barton (Jeremy), Ashley Hurley (Josh) and Dylan Fretwell (LeAnn); thirteen step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren: Gracie, Wyatt, Emily, Noah, Tyler, Brayden, Paislee and Genevieve; and three step-great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lay was preceded in death by her brothers: Lester Lee Crowe, Rev. Dryman Crowe, Leslie Crowe, and Harold Crowe; and sisters: Effie Mae Rogers, Christine Hendrix, Annie Bell Webb, Betty Joe Nichols, and Joan Elaine Crowe.

 

Due to COVID-19 precautions, a private funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Davenport Funeral Home. At the family’s request, attendance of the service will be limited to immediate family only, and the service will be available for live streaming on both the Davenport Funeral Home website and Davenport Funeral Home Facebook Page.
