Harriette Wallace Campbell Scales

Harriette Wallace Campbell Scales, 77, passed away on June 6, 2024, in Seneca, SC after an extended illness.

Born October 5, 1946, in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.D. and Hazel Campbell. Mrs. Scales graduated from Queens College in Charlotte NC with a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Art. She retired as head of the math department at Wade Hampton High School (Greenville, SC). She then taught part-time at Greenville Technical College as an adjunct professor. During her career, she was most proud of helping students go from a 3rd-grade math level to a high school math level.

Mrs. Scales enjoyed her grandchildren and attending their school events. She loved Clemson sports and especially cheering on the members of Tiger Band. She kept up her love of the arts with her sewing, painting, and scrapbooking. Music was always a part of her life and she enjoyed seeing the latest Broadway shows at the Peace Center. She enjoyed traveling with her family – especially to Hilton Head Island, SC – or escaping to the mountains and going back in time on the Biltmore Estate.

Harriette is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert W. Scales, III; daughter Katherine Scales Crouse (Kevin) of Seneca, SC; son William Daniel Scales (Desiree) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren Ashley and Eric Crouse of Seneca, SC; Quinn and Haddie-Lynn Scales of Spartanburg, SC; and her furbaby cat Sophie.

Mrs. Scales’ family would like to thank her dearly loved caregiver and guardian angel, Doris Herbert. Her love and dedication to our family will never be forgotten. In addition, the family wishes to thank the staff at Keowee Square in Seneca, SC for their unending support.
