Happy Valentine’s Day to Oconee Federal

Valentine’s Day tomorrow is extra special to a long time Oconee County-based business. Oconee Federal Savings and Loan turns 95 years old. Curt Evatt knows well the history of the savings and loan in Seneca. It was chartered in 1924 as the Seneca Building and Loan Association. Evatt today serves as president/CEO and his late father, Rhett Evatt, ran the savings and loan for more than 50 years, succeeding Joe Byrd who was at the helm back in the Roaring 20s. The savings and loan survived the Great Depression, World War Two, the Great Recession and today numbers seven branches across Oconee and in Rabun and Stephens counties in Georgia. And tomorrow is groundbreaking for its first branch in Clemson.
