Ground to be broken for new WHS

An official ceremony to break ground to build the new Walhalla High School takes place next week—even though trustees have yet to nail down a guaranteed maximum price for the project. That total price was discussed last night during a work session attended by three of the five trustees. Dr. Michael Thorsland, assistant superintendent for operations, announced the public ceremony for 5 o’clock Monday afternoon at the highway 11 location. Groundbreaking is to take place one hour before the start of the board’s regular May meeting, at which Thorsland is confident a guaranteed maximum price will be set. In an interview after last night’s work session, Thorsland predicted the total price will wind up in the range of $54 million.
