Government shutdown could affect “Sewer South”

How long the federal government shutdown lasts could play a hand in whether Oconee officials are able to leverage a pending federal grant to help pay for sewer extension to the county’s I-85 corridor. Chris Eleazer, executive director of the Joint Regional Sewer Authority, told his policy-making board last night prospects remain good for approval of a grant application filed with the U-S Economic Development Administration. But he reminded the sewer commissioners that there remains the federal shutdown in which things simply are not getting done. Last night the commissioners agreed to approve a resolution associated with the grant application.
