Georgia Man killed in Sunday morning Oconee Accident

The Oconee County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a weekend accident in which a Franklin County, GA man was killed on I-85 in southern Oconee County.

According to Coroner Karl Addis, 33-year-old Paul Edward Knox, Jr. of Lavonia, GA died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in the motor vehicle collision on I-85 southbound near Exit 1 near Fair Play.

Coroner Addis says that the decedent died from a head injury after being ejected from the vehicle that he was operating. The Coroner says that Knox, Jr. was traveling alone at the time of the collision.

The single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 2:05 am, according to the Coroner’s Office.

According to Master Trooper, Gary Miller of the Highway Patrol says that the vehicle involved in the accident is a 2013 Chrysler 300 which traveled off the right side of the roadway on I-85 southbound and struck a road sign and an embankment and then overturned.
