Fugitive from justice case in Oconee

A 75-year old man sits in an Oconee jail cell this morning, having been arrested on a warrant alleging fugitive from justice. According to an Oconee Sheriff’s Department report, Newman Howard Shankle was identified by authorities in Richmond County, North Carolina as a suspect in fraud and the mistreatment of a body. The department quotes a task force officer for the U-S Marshall Service as saying he received information that Shankle was living in Oconee County. Shankle was arrested Tuesday at his home on White Oak Lane near Westminster. He sits in jail awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
