Fred Whitfield

Westminster – Fred Richard Whitfield, 78, loving husband of Betty Medlin Whitfield, passed away on July 2, 2025, at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born on February 5, 1947, in Oconee County, South Carolina, Fred was the son of the late Fred William and Altha Jeanette Wheeler Whitfield. Fred was a dedicated truck driver for 20 years and later worked at Burton Properties for 10 years. He was a member of Turning Point Church of God and a former member of Seneca Church of God of Prophecy. In his free time, Fred enjoyed golfing, a pastime that brought him both relaxation and joy. Above all, Fred’s greatest joy was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought light and happiness to his life.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Medlin Whitfield; sons, Greg Whitfield (Tonia), Shane Whitfield; grandchildren, Heather Olvera, Caleb Whitfield, Tyler Whitfield, Karliegh Whitfield, Khloe Whitfield; and 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Cansler, Rebecca Brooks, Joan Worley, Brenda Whitfield; brothers, Larry Whitfield, Bobby Whitfield, and Terry Whitfield.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 pm, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel, with private burial to follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens. The family will receive family and friends from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
