Flu-Related Death in South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has announced the first flu-associated death in South Carolina and that death has occurred in the Upstate.

According to a press release from DHEC, those most at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people 65 years of age or older and those with chronic health conditions. However, healthy people also can have serious complications from the flu.

SCDHEC recommends that individuals receive their annual flu vaccinations as well as limited contact with others while sick, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and washing hands often with soap or water or using an alcohol-based hand rub if soap and water are not available.
