Flock controversy plays out again in council chambers
In one of its rare day time meetings, Oconee’s governing authority showed serious determination to in its efforts to discover the extent to which automatic license plate readings have been gathered by law enforcement. The council unanimously agreed to a series of motions by Tommy James that, among other objectives, call for legal opinions. In the meantime, it was revealed that the county sheriff’s office seeks to cancel the contract with the Flock camera company. However, that alone, doesn’t satisfy many of the concerns that Councilman James has been collecting from members of the public. Sheriff Crenshaw told the council he’s willing to share with the council as many of the license plate reader collections to the extent they do not violate someone’s privacy or jeopardize an open investigation.
