At Clemson tonight, photographer Cecil Williams gives “An Eyewitness Account of Harvey Gantt’s historic enrollment nearly 50 years ago. The presentation takes place at 7 in Brackett Hall auditorium. Gantt became the first African-American to attend the university, and there was great worry that trouble would greet his start. Photographer Williams played a major role in documenting the Civil Rights movement in South Carolina. His photos from that era have been included in 126 books, as well as newspapers and on television. An exhibit of his photography will be on display through November 16 at the R-M Cooper Library.
