Eve of holiday weekend traffic accidents

On the very day Oconee Sheriff’s Office put out its annual reminder of safe driving trips for Memorial Day weekend, accidents marked busy 123 between Clemson and Seneca.  Two Sandifer Boulevard accidents kept the cross-trained Seneca Fire Department busy.  At Sandifer and Boggs Road, a vehicle rolled over, although no one was hurt.  In front of Applewood Shopping Center near Wells Highway, one person was sitting on the asphalt beside a car as fire trucks were positioned to divert traffic on the eastbound lanes.  During the 3 o’clock hour Seneca-bound traffic backed up from Lake Keowee Ford to Wells Highway, the scene of a wreck at the traffic lights.  The weekend which serves as the unofficial start to summer can be hazardous on the busy highways.  Here are tips from the sheriff’s office:  “Be patient and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.  Prepare for the possibility of heavy traffic volumes….Avoid distractions if you are behind the wheel and make sure to always wear your seatbelts.  Anytime that you drink alcohol, please do not operate a motor vehicle, a boat or any type of personal watercraft.  Also, have a designated driver or plan on using a ride sharing service.”
