Eugene Hall
Eugene Judson Hall, 92, beloved husband of Joann W. Hall, died peacefully at home on Wednesday Sept. 24th surrounded by his family. Born October 31, 1932, in Houston, Mississippi, he was the firstborn of E.J. Hall Sr. and Carey Seay Hall.
Mr. Hall was instilled with a strong work ethic at an early age on the farm as he attended school as a teenager. He was active in 4-H during those years before deciding to enlist in the Mississippi National Guard upon graduation from Houston High School in 1950. He underwent boot camp training in Wisconsin before shipping out to join the U.S. Forces in the Korean War.
Mr. Hall was awarded the Bronze Star for valor for his two years of service overseas. While behind enemy lines, Master Sergeant Hall defused landmines and built bridges at night to move American troops. Upon his return Stateside, he continued his service completing Officer training at Fort Belvoir, VA securing the rank of Lieutenant. Later Mr. Hall attended Mississippi State University on the GI bill and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering.
He soon went to work for the only company he would call his employer, Deere and Company, where he served for almost 40 years, rising to Divisional Sales Manager. He moved his family eight times in service for Deere including stops in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Chattanooga, TN, Effingham, IL, Wichita, KS, Kansas City, Indianapolis and lastly Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, Gene and his family were faithful members of Lane Avenue Baptist Church of Upper Arlington.
Mr. and Mrs. Hall retired to Sarasota, Fl and later moved to Seneca, South Carolina where he built two homes and enjoyed fishing on the lake. The Halls were members of the First Baptist Church of Seneca and later Reedy Fork Baptist Church. After 25 years in Seneca, Eugene spent his last two months in Hospice in the second home he built.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by sisters Corrine Sykes and Virginia Gammill and newborn David Woods Hall.
In addition to his devoted wife Joann, Mr. Hall is survived by two sons, William Dean Hall and Clayton Woods Hall. He is also survived by a sister, Ann Hall Vickery of Jackson, Mississippi. Mr. Hall had three grandchildren; Judson C. Hall, David P. Hall and Eli W. Hall as well as two great granddaughters.
Mr. Hall was remembered during a graveyard memorial service in his native Houston, Mississippi.
