Environmental cleanup in downtown Seneca

A DHEC official says an executed copy of a voluntary cleanup contract for a corner property in downtown Seneca is imminent.  Mark Berenbok, project manager for the state’s Brownfields program, says no one responded with comments to a legal advertisement announcing a voluntary cleanup contract involving one acre at 100 and 102 WN 1st and 207 N. Fairplay.  On part of the property was a long-standing dry cleaner – Kings Cleaners and Laundry.   As the result of no public feedback, according to Berenbok, final signatures of the contract are being processed and an executed contract should be on the way by the end of this week.  According to the legal ad, past use of the property may have caused environmental pollution.
