Environmental agency wants more testing

An investment group wants to buy the remains of Utica’s former textile building and property, but the state’s environmental authorities want more testing as part of a voluntary cleanup of the property.  According to a legal advertisement, there’s concern that the use of the S. 6th Street property as a textile mill may have caused environmental pollution.  The prospective buyer is Studio Investment Group and, according to the ad, the investors envision a development of multi-family living and commercial use.  A South Carolina DHEC official says sampling under the Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Contract has been conducted.  But the official, Robert Hodges Jr., says, “Based on our review of the report….we have requested additional sampling.  The results of that extra sampling could be available in a few weeks.
