Editorial—We’d have liked to see East End on the list!

Projects to improve 17 intersections in South Carolina do not include U-S 123-S-C 130 in Seneca. In our opinion, that’s unfortunate—even if statistics don’t qualify the intersection as begging for safety improvements. The SC DOT is accepting public comment until June 13 on additional projects recommended for the state’s Federal Safety Project Program.

We’d like to see someone or some body—City of Seneca would be ideal—to make the case for 123-130, often called the East End intersection. And we don’t mean simply a new coat of asphalt. The Seneca intersection that obviously holds its own with Miracle Circle for volumes of traffic could stand some enhancement from a safety standpoint. We’ll let the experts figure out exactly what. Especially considering the city’s big push to bring a new economic life to E. North First Street near the traffic lights.

So, Mr. Mayor, Mr. City Council lets make a push for a better gateway to the city. Your traveling public will thank you for it.

That’s our view. What’s yours?
