Dr. Stanley Eldon Upchurch

Seneca – Dr. Stanley Eldon Upchurch, 86, husband of over 65 years to Evalyn Gail Patterson Upchurch, passed away Saturday, March 13th, 2021 at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.

 

Born in Douglas County, Missouri, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Ella Miller Upchurch. Dr. Upchurch was called to preach at the early age of 18, and was in the ministry for over 60 years, having pastored churches in South Dakota, Kansas, Florida, Texas, Missouri, and Ohio. Dr. Upchurch was a published author, a stoic man, but enjoyed and kept humor until the end. Dr. Upchurch was a lifelong learner, attending and teaching at many colleges, and eventually attaining his Doctorate degree. Dr. Upchurch enjoyed family genealogy, playing the banjo, guitar, harmonica and carpentry projects. Dr. Upchurch was a member of Stella Baptist Church in Stella, Missouri.

 

Dr. Upchurch is survived by his beloved wife, Evalyn Gail Patterson Upchurch; a son, Stephen Upchurch and his wife BJ of Seneca, South Carolina; a brother, Raymond Upchurch of Arkansas; sisters, Aileen Whinery and Gina Dolese of Kansas; two grandchildren, Blaine Allen Martin and Codi Rene Martin; three great-grandchildren, Hadley, Chance, and James; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Dr. Upchurch is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Susan Rene` Martin; a brother, Lowell Upchurch; sister, Zelma Still and Sybil Upchurch.

 

A celebration of Dr. Upchurch’s life will be held at a later date.
