Douglas Wayne Hedden Sr.
Mtn. Rest, SC– Douglas Wayne Hedden, Sr., 80, husband of Linda Powell Hedden, of Mountain Rest, SC, passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by family, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Born in Mountain Rest, SC, Mr. Hedden was the son of the late LeRoy and Grace Allsep Hedden. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam era. Mr. Hedden retired from Duke Power as a crane operator after 30 years.
Wayne’s legacy is his family. He wasn’t just a husband, a father, or a grandpa, he was a protector, a guide, and our biggest encouragement. He taught others what it means to be strong, selfless, and kind. His love was steady and unconditional, and his wisdom shaped the people around him. His stories made others dream bigger, his quiet strength gave others courage. He showed us that being a hero isn’t about wearing a cape, it’s about showing up for the people you love, day after day.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mr. Hedden is survived by his sons: Doug Wayne Hedden, Jr., Ronald Lavell Hedden, Glenn Curtis Hedden, and Danny Morris Hedden (Faith), all of Mountain Rest; brothers: Bob Hedden of Mountain Rest, David Hedden of Walhalla, and Dennis Hedden of Mountain Rest; sisters: Carolyn Turpin of Mountain Rest, Ann Hedden of Mountain Rest, and Patricia Pelfrey of Walhalla; grandchildren: Taylor Hedden (Katherine), Madison Hedden Hudson (Tristen), Josh Hedden (Laurel), Wayne Hedden, Colt Hedden Waylon Hedden, and Austin Hedden; and great-grandchildren: Landon Hedden, Callie Hedden, and Ella Hedden.
