DOT: 18 Oconee road projects on the 2019 work list

Without a doubt, one of the more common sights in Oconee County next year will be that of state contractors addressing the need to smooth out several of the county’s worst roads, streets, and highways. Alan Adams, DOT resident construction engineer, needed more than three minutes this morning to list all of the projects made possible by increased funding, much of it generated by the state’s higher gas tax. In all 18 roads, streets, and highways will get attention, including some of the bumpier main entry ways and pass thrus in the cities of Seneca, West Union, and Westminster. Adams says the 18 are being bunched into seven contracts awarded to the area’s major road pavers. On the work list are sections of streets in Seneca, such as WS 4th, ES 2nd, and Daniel Avenue. Lined up for work to cover substantial mileage include the following: US 76/123 from the Toccoa Highway thru Westminster to Richland Road at the Oconee County Club and SC 11 from Collins Road thru the West Union intersection to Fowler Road. According to Adams, two of the roads on the list in the Seneca area could see work start before the end of this calendar year, but the bulk of the seven contracts covering 18 individual roads will take place during the road paving season of 2019.
