Deveril “Dee” Eaton

Salem, SC — With profound sadness we announce the passing of Deveril “Dee” Eaton, age 97. She passed away peacefully April 5, 2021, at her home in Salem, South Carolina. Dee was a devoted mother and loving friend to all whose lives she touched.

Dee was born October 15, 1923 in Quincy Ill, graduated from college with a business degree and married her high school sweetheart Richard Channon Eaton in 1944. They were married for 64 years; Richard preceded her in death in December 2008.

Dee was a devoted wife and mother first and foremost. She raised and treasured 4 children and family was her constant focus. She was intelligent, loving, strong willed and firm in her Christian faith. Dee believed in giving back to others, actively participating in various community outreach programs in the communities where she lived.

Dee especially enjoyed spending time with family and close friends, with her special part of the day being “happy hour”, featuring a cool glass of white wine, an assortment of snacks, good conversation and watching the Wheel of Fortune.

Dee had a large and loving family and is survived by her four children, Jill Wahl, Liz Schlote, Rick Eaton and Jim Eaton.

She was a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Marc Eaton, Lori Willey, Andy Speer, Megan Tameling, Caitlin Hester, Maddie Giles and Ben Eaton. Dee had ten great-grandchildren, Charles Eaton, Shane Eaton, Leo Giles, Tovin Willey, Trevor Willey, Kadence Tameling, Gavin Hester, Myla Hester, Brittany Nicholas and Joe Gray.  She was also blessed with a great great-grandchild Drayce Pike.

Dee had a deep love of animals and enjoyed a variety of family pets throughout her life, believing they provided lessons in unconditional love and enriched her life and that of her family.  In lieu of flowers, Dee’s memory would be honored by donations made in her name to the Salvation Army P.O. Box 1237 Greenville, SC 29602-1237 or to the Animal Rescue Fund 10445 Clemson Blvd, Seneca SC 29678.
