Defendant admits stealing peaches

A young man was ordered today to pay Clemson University $3 thousand dollars for damage sustained when he stole peaches from the university’s Musser Farm research facility in Oconee County’s Friendship community. Scottie Phil Randall Ledford pleaded to larceny and damage or destruction of a farm product. Prosecutor Chris Beeco said Ledford is the second of two co-defendants in the case. As a mitigating circumstance, defense attorney Amanda Surles says the Musser Farm is adjacent to campground where there has been the practice of picking peaches adjacent to. Judge Sprouse pronounced a five-year prison term suspended, with the requirement of restitution in the amount of $3 thousand.
