DAVID MCCUTCHEON

Westminster – David Reid McCutcheon, 76, husband of Heather Hamby McCutcheon, passed away on Monday, October 28th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

 

Born on December 22nd, 1947, in Union, South Carolina. David was the son of the late Earl McCutcheon and Martha “Mott” Murphy Farr. David was a graduate of Dorman High School, and later a graduate of Wofford College, where he played college football.

David was known for his dedication to the community in which he served on many boards, such as Guardian Ad Litem, Juvenile Arbitration, Success by Six, POPS (Principals of Parenting Successfully Skills), Healthy Ventures, Tribble Center Foundation, Juvenile Drug Court Judge. He also was the owner and operator of several gyms such as Total Fitness, owned several restaurants Flour Barrel and Cane Brake, worked for Spartan Foods, was retired from the United Way as the CPO, a previous member of the Walhalla City Council, a Walhalla and Westminster Rotarian, and was honored to receive many awards over the years for his dedication and support. Some of the awards that David received was the Oconee County Volunteer of the Year, Oconee Service Mankind Award, “Hero of the Year” for Children of South Carolina, United Way Volunteer of the Year, and a finalist for the Jefferson Award. David was the founder of the Oconee Crisis Center and an avid supporter of Ripple of One. David was known for his enjoyment of boxing, and powerlifting, was a professional wrestler, was very musically gifted, and was a member of the “Rants”. David’s greatest love and passion was spending time with his family and enjoying beach trips with Heather to the Isle of Palms. 

 

David is survived by beloved wife of 29 years, Heather Hamby McCutcheon; daughters, Amy Lee (Will) Campobello, South Carolina, Malisa Williams (Trey) Cowpens, South Carolina; a granddaughter reared in the home, Haley McCutcheon; grandchildren, Hanna O’Shields (Matthew), Chloe Lee, Blake Jackson, Robyn Williams, Joshua Reid Williams; one great-grandchild, Malani Reid Mustafaa; special friends and Godson, Lee and Amy Safrit, and his beloved fur baby, Ginger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly.

 

David is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Abby McCutcheon; and his beloved dog, Elvis and his cat, Prissy.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held November 6th, 2024 at 2:30pm at Golden Corner Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church on November 6th, 2024 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm.
