Cynthia Ann Grant Nichols

Walhalla, SC — Cynthia morning of Thursday, June 19, 2025. Known for her kindness, grace, and unshakable devotion to her family and faith, Cynthia was truly one of a kind — sweet in spirit, strong in heart,

and always dressed to reflect her elegance, right down to her beautifully done nails.

Cynthia dedicated her life to loving others. Her greatest joy came from being

surrounded by her family — her beloved three daughters, her cherished grandchildren,

and great-grandchildren who brought endless pride and light into her life. Her home was

a place of comfort, where laughter was shared over plates of her famous fried chicken

and endless glasses of sweet tea.

She worked for many years as a seamstress, a craft that suited her attention to detail

and her steady hands — the same hands that later crocheted soft blankets for her

grandchildren, each one woven with love. When she wasn’t cooking, shopping, or

creating jewelry, Cynthia could be found among the flowers in her garden, her true

sanctuary. She found peace and joy in watching things grow, and her front porch,

always full of blooming color and birds chirping, became a gathering place for friends,

neighbors, and family to sit and talk. Cynthia made everyone feel at home. She will be

missed dearly, but her flowers remind us that her spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of

those who knew her.

A native of Oconee County, Cynthia was the daughter of the late Leonard Harrison and

Mary Ethel Lee Galloway Grant.

Cynthia will be greatly missed by her family: daughters, Sue Thrasher (Larry) of

Tamassee, Janet Moss (Dean) of Salem, and Donna Bibb (James) of Pendleton;

sisters, Dessie Mae Hopkins of Toccoa, GA and Diane Pelfrey (Eddie) of West Union;

step-brother John “Dud” Davis; step-sisters Elsie Winchester and Wilma Alexander, all

of Tamassee; seven grandchildren who lovingly called her Granny or Nana, Karen Kerr

(Travis) of Wahalla, Lucas Crowe of Walhalla, Wes Crowe of Salem, James Dean Moss (Kellie)

of Salem, Shirley Moss of Salem, Mackenzie Taylor (Jesse) of Seneca, and Jordan

Troidl (Daniel) of Pendleton; fifteen great-grandchildren and her first great great-

granddaughter on the way; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years

Clarence Nichols; beautiful granddaughter Melissa Moss Haddad; brothers, J.W. Grant,

Charles Grant, James “Bud” Grant, Tilson Grant, and Harrison Grant; sisters, Jessie

Bell Rogers, Estel Grant, Ina Rogers, and Helen Wilbanks; and step-brother Glen Davis.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025, at

Davenport Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will immediately follow at 3:00 PM in

the Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Whitmire Cemetery in Salem, SC.
