Committee putting $millions “onto the streets”

Oconee’s state transportation committee awarded a total of around $7.5 million to resurface parts of various streets and roads across the county, including projects requested by four of the county’s five municipalities. The county’s state “C” Fund Committee, which allocates monies through the state DOT for farm-to-market type road improvements, voted 3-0 to affirm an earlier email agreement to award monies to the local DOT construction office and to the municipalities of Seneca, Salem, Walhalla and Westminster. Approximately $5.4 million will allow the local DOT to bid the following resurfacing projects: Stephens Drive near Utica; Sunrise Drive near Salem; Sitton Mill Road near SC 59; and Crooked Creek Road near the Keowee School Road. Other allocations are $1 million for Seneca and $250 thousand for Salem. Walhalla and Westminster each receive $500 thousand.
