Charles “Chuck” Harrington
Salem, SC– Charles “Chuck” Harrington passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on March 9, 2025. Born with a passion for architecture and a love for life, Chuck made an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
A proud graduate of the University of Florida, Chuck enjoyed all the experiences college life had to offer as an architectural student and member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. His bond with the University and Gainesville remained strong after graduation which drew him to return for the majority of his professional life as a talented architect.
Chuck contributed to the community and was chairman of United Way and Gator City Kiwanis Club. He designed numerous significant educational, commercial, and civic buildings, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the landscape of Gainesville.
Later in life, Chuck and his beloved wife of 44 years, Claire, moved to Highlands, NC, where they embraced the tranquility of the mountains and traveled the world together. He lived at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club and served a term as President of the club.
Chuck was a mentor and friend to many. His infectious energy, humor, and generosity of spirit made him beloved by those around him. Whether he was sharing stories as a skilled fisherman, playing pool, engaging in playful pranks, or enjoying his favorite sports, Chuck had an undeniable knack for making life more enjoyable for everyone he encountered. He took great pride in guiding others to reach their full potential, adopting many into his life and challenging them to become their best selves.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck’s legacy is defined by his devotion to family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, world traveler, dog lover, and talented artist. He leaves behind a collection of over one hundred pen and ink drawings, capturing his unique perspective on the world.
Chuck was predeceased by his son, Mark Charles Harrington. He is survived by his wife: Claire Ann Harrington; step-daughters: Karen Holden and Kristie Ramey; and step-grandchildren: James Kennedy and Julia Ann Kennedy.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
