Changes under Oconee Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Crenshaw has confirmed changes, moves that he believes will better serve the public.  And those changes, among others, involve the courthouse deputies.  Crenshaw today said, “I have renamed the Detention Bureau to the Judicial Services Bureau.  The courthouse deputies were assigned to the Special Operations Bureau.  I moved them to the newly named bureau to increase our efficiency and effectiveness.”  Crenshaw says the county detention center is now fully staffed and additional detention deputies will go to the state academy to become dual certified, meaning they’ll have the same authority as uniformed patrol deputies.  “When we need extra deputies at the courthouse during court weeks for security or prisoner transports,” said Crenshaw, “we can use the detention deputies instead of pulling sworn deputies from other areas.”  The courthouse unit is now under Capt. Chapman; Lt. Crum now supervises “PACE” – Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement.  That unit will include marine patrol, litter/environmental services, and traffic-related complaints.
