Observation platform in the works for Sassafras

A $350 thousand gift from Duke Energy will soon allow visitors access to South Carolina’s highest peak—Pickens County’s Sassafras Mountain. Not far from the corporate limits of Walhalla someone apparently tried to break into a home on the 300 block of South Boundary Street. It’s a crime being investigated by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office. A 33-year old man was arrested yesterday afternoon at the scene of what the Oconee Sheriff’s Office described as a burglary in progress near Seneca. At 29 Sirrine Street, Utica, two deputies placed Robert William Thompson of Boggs Drive, Seneca into custody and eventually charged Thompson with possession of drug paraphernalia. A Beltonian, who declined to release his name, cashed in a top prize winning ticket for Saturday’s Palmetto Cash 5 drawing.
