Helping those who earn under $40 thousand

Starting December 1, Oconee school district employees who earn under $40 thousand a year will see something extra in their paychecks.  The district has approved a $300 dollar bonus.  According to Dr. Michael Thorsland, county superintendent, some of those workers struggle to make ends meet, and this is an attempt to help them.

Sanitation workers to be idle on Thanksgiving

All Oconee solid waste facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holidays.  All recycling centers will be open the Wednesday before Thanksgiving—Wednesday, November 25.  The city of Walhalla announces that garbage pickups scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week will instead run on Wednesday, November 25.
