Former school building on the ground

The building that served as a small Oconee town’s public school is no more. West Union Mayor Linda Oliver said the contractor hired by the town finished demolishing the dilapidated brick building shortly before 1:30 p-m Friday. A group that tried to save the building for preservation and new use plans to put up an official state historic marker nearby.

Oconee County is targeting a date to “light up” FOCUS–the project to bring high-speed broadband service countywide. Paul Corbeil, District One county councilman, says the projected date is four months away–Friday, March 15, 2013.
