Casino possibility seen as a no-no
A committee of Oconee government went to work yesterday to ensure that the county doesn’t someday become home to a gambling casino. Matthew Durham, council chairman, says the committee headed by Tommy James, District Four councilman, is being pro-active to guard against gambling interests setting a footing in the county –particularly the I-85 corridor and Lake Hartwell between South Carolina and Georgia. Interviewed this morning, Durham declared casinos – for a variety of reasons – are not the kind of development the county would like for the major entryway from the Georgia side.
