Bond denied for inmate awaiting trial for murder

For a third time, a Hartwell, Georgia woman has been denied a bond.  And it’s back to the Oconee jail for Lakeisha McLendon, who awaits trial on the charge of murder.  Judge Lawton McIntosh this afternoon said he heard nothing to change his mind, although pleas were made by McLendon’s lawyer and her mother.  The mother, Saundra Thornton, stressed that her daughter has had no previous criminal history and that she ought to be given the chance to return to her family pre-trial.  McLendon is charged with murder in the stabbing death October 17 of Terrance Matthew Boyd. He died in the yard of his Walhalla home – the victim, the court was told, of being stabbed with a screwdriver in the heart.  Judge McIntosh heard family members state that the victim and the accused had been involved in a relationship, but there was no clear explanation this afternoon why it turned violent. The judge instructed defense lawyer Dunnaway that he may request a bond for the fourth time but must wait at least six months to renew a request.  McIntosh conceded that the fact that McLendon lives out of state weighed into his decision, along with the violent nature of Boyd’s death.
