Bidding a farewell to election official Flora Riley

Wisdom, fairness, and honesty are words ascribed to Flora Riley for the Seneca woman’s contributions to the process of Oconee County elections.  A drop-in held yesterday by the Board of Registration and Elections served as a farewell to Riley, who steps down after 33 years board service.  Riley still has the letters from the governor and state senator that confirmed her appointment in 1986.  She has seen county elections advance from paper ballots to automation.  And, now, as she departs the state is switching to new machinery that will incorporate a combination of automation with a way to verify votes by paper ballots.
