BETTY POWELL WHITE
Seneca, SC — Betty Powell White, 88, wife of the late Devon R. White, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Residences at Park Place in Seneca, SC.
Born in Florence County, SC, Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Lincoln and Ola McDaniel Powell. She retired as Buildings Manager from the General Services Administration. Mrs. White was a board member of Charlestown Landing in Charleston, SC. While there, she developed “Rainbow Chasing”, which involved the local Charlestown Landing fountains and watching the rainbows form within them at certain times throughout the day. Mrs. White enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. She was a talented pianist who loved to sing and was involved with numerous churches, teaching Sunday School and serving as Choir Director, among other positions. She was currently a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Charleston. Mrs. White was an avid reader who read several books per week. A political aficionado, Mrs. White enjoyed conversing about politics and watching Fox News.
Mrs. White is survived by her daughters: Joni Townsend (Dwayne) and Carolyn Landowske (Roy); brother: Bobby Powell (Tiny); sister: Shirley Stroud; and one granddaughter who was the apple of her eye: Savannah Scarborough.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Davenport Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, prior to the service, at Davenport Funeral Home.
Flowers are accepted.
