Twenty members of the Seneca High School chorus have been named to the South Carolina All-State Chorus.  Of 80 schools across the state, Seneca’s All-State members are the fourth highest.  Eleven Seneca students performed with perfection on the sight singing portion of their audition. The All-State Chorus will sing in March at Winthrop University with world-renowned conductors.  

The recycling centers and landfill operated by Oconee County will do business tomorrow during the Veterans Day holiday.  The day will be a holiday for regular county government workers, although the board of Oconee election commissioners will gather at 9 o’clock to certify the results of the General Election voting Tuesday.

Because of the extreme dry conditions, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources has issued a burning ban on the 33,000-acre Jocassee Gorges area in northern Oconee and Pickens counties.  Firefighters from the S.C. At Seneca’s Kellett property, workers from one company worked to remove buried asbestos tiles. According to the city, a second company was there to monitor the work of the asbestos removal crew.  A Seneca press release states the city has been in full communication with South Carolina DHEC and all reports have been filed.

Four young men were lodged in the Oconee Detention Center yesterday, charged with first offense night hunting for deer or bear.  The men are 17 nad 19 years old and live in Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster, and Townville.  They were charged by the South Carolina DNR.

  A verbal disagreement escalated into a stabbing this week near Seneca, and the Oconee Sheriff’s Office is still investigating what happened Monday afternoon on Humbert Street in Utica.  Jimmy Watt, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said, “The victim was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
