Armed cops ready to station in the schools

An armed team of police officers is ready to be stationed inside all Oconee County public school facilities during the new year that’ll start within two weeks, according to Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.  All are sheriff’s office personnel, with the exception of the Walhalla policeman who returns this year to his city’s middle school.  What’s new about the cadre of protectors, Crenshaw tells us, is that for the first time all officers, including the police forces in the municipalities, will possess electronic access to their school buildings.  That way, if they are outside when trouble occurs, they can enter and the building and don’t have to wait for others to arrive.
