Accrediting agency turns in favorable report on Oconee schools

Outside evaluators have issued a report card on how well Oconee County is educating its public school children. Overall, what a team from AdvanceEd found is that students are being offered good quality education, with room for improvement. Lisa Simmons, assistant superintendent for instruction, reported at this week’s trustees meeting that she received the favorable report the day the public schools closed for spring break. Between a possible district score of 100 to 400, Oconee scored 330 which, Simmons says, is well above the nation average of 278-283. During their visit to the Oconee School District, the evaluators visited eight schools and made what Simmons called “73 observances.” The evaluators considered not just how well teachers engaged their students, but the level of engagement the students showed.
