Accident details from SCHP

Three Georgia motorists were part of a multiple-vehicle accident before sun-up this morning in South Carolina. The crash took the life of Guy Arvid Nelson, a 60-year old resident of Oconee County’s Foxwood Hills development on Lake Hartwell. A statement from the SC Highway Patrol said the accident at 6:40 this morning on S.C. 11, nearly four miles south of Westminster, began when Nelson’s pickup truck crossed the center line of the two-lane road and side-swiped a sand truck, driven by William White of Canton, Georgia. White was uninjured. According to the patrol, the Nelson pickup then struck a second pickup driven by Jonathan Webb of Bowman, Georgia. Webb was airlifted to a Greenville hospital. A fourth vehicle, a car, driven by Brenda Roach of Hartwell, Georgia collided with Webb’s truck, according to Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said Nelson was a security guard at a manufacturing plant and, at the time of the accident, was believed headed toward his normal place for breakfast.
