A conviction in absentia

An Oconee jury returned the verdict of guilty this morning in the case of South Carolina v. Witt. A court officer says the jury found Lee Witt guilty of stalking a woman with whom he had had a prior relationship. Witt was arrested by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office in 2017. Because defendant Witt did not appear for trial, his sentence is sealed until which time officers locate and bring him to court. The jury heard testimony from eight witnesses. There were no witnesses for the defense.
