A buttress of support for the West Union police

As a small town, West Union employs a small police force.  However, should there be an incident that would stretch the department’s workforce, there is support nearby from the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, headquartered in the adjoining municipality of Walhalla.  Sheriff Crenshaw was present last night for the official introduction of West Union’s three-month chief of police, Jeff Richardson.  The two have already conferred and, as Crenshaw explained to 101.7/WGOG NEWS, “We’ve always covered for the city of West Union when they didn’t have an officer on-duty, and we’ll continue to do that.”  Crenshaw adds that should there be a major West Union crime, the 100-plus officer county force will be there to assist.
