Update–fatal shooting in Clemson

The Pickens County coroner has identified the man who died today in a police-involved shooting in Clemson.  He’s 25-year old Greenville resident Gregory Chandler Metz.  Coroner Kelley says Metz was shot just before 1:30 am at the Circle K. According to the state police, officers confronted the man about a stolen moped.  The state police, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, announced that at the request of the Clemson police, they will investigate what happened.  That investigation is to include interviews with potential witnesses and the collection of evidence for forensic testing.  What “SLED” determines is to be summarized in a case file report and submitted to prosecutors.  The incident was the sixth officer-involved shooting this year in South Carolina and the first involving the Clemson city police.
