TROY EDWARD HAWKINS

Seneca, SC – Troy Edward Hawkins, 85, of Seneca, husband of Sandra Lee Jedrykowski Hawkins, of 12 Spring Run Drive, Seneca, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2023, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

 

A native of Oconee County, Mr. Hawkins was the son of the late Lee Edward Hawkins and Bessie Ruth Smith Hawkins. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving proudly from May 1958-June 1962.

In the Air Force, he served as a sergeant with the sentry dog security Air Policeman handlers in which he earned many awards.

 

Mr. Hawkins was a Lifetime member of Corinth Baptist Church and was involved with many activities of the church.

 

Troy was very motivated to improve his life and to serve his community. He started his journey at  Anderson College and continued his education at Georgetown College and Clemson University.

 

Troy was Assistant Principal at Walhalla High for 10 Years, and Principal at Walhalla Middle for 18 years.  During his tenure at WMS, he was awarded by the Former Governor Dick Riley,  “The State of SC Palmetto’s Finest Award.”  He also was Director for Palmetto’s Finest for 6 years.

 

He loved his family and the times he spent with them. He also enjoyed riding horses and camping, traveling out west to see rodeos, and visiting famous old cowboy gravesites and battlegrounds. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan who loved both male and female sports.

 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hawkins is survived by two daughters: Sherry Hawkins of Morganton, NC, and Regina Gable (Doug) of Canon, GA; brother: Derrell Hawkins (Sandra), of Seneca; sister: Norma Jean Hawkins, of Seneca, and one grandchild Taylor Gable (Samantha), of Nicholson, GA.

 

Mr. Hawkins was predeceased in death by a grandson, Troy Gable, and two brothers: Bobby Lee Hawkins and Billy Ray Hawkins.

 

Receiving of family and friends will be from 1:00-3:00 pm and the funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Corinth Baptist Church 530 Old Clemson Highway, Seneca S.C. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to: Oconee County Animal Rescue Fund, 10445 Clemson Blvd, Seneca, SC 29678; Wild Hearts Equine Therapy Center, 598 Wild Hearts Way, Seneca, SC 29678; or the Charity of Ones Choice.

 

The family is at their respective homes. Davenport Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
