96.3/WGOG NEWS correction and clarification

96.3/WGOG NEWS earlier story about this week’s court appearance by an Oconee County man charged with felon in possession of a firearm incorrectly stated that defendant Shannon David Powers entered a plea of not guilty during arraignment Thursday before Magistrate Kevin McDonald in Greenville. According to U-S District Court documents, a plea of not guilty was entered by the court. But Powers himself entered no plea. 96.3/WGOG NEWS regrets the error. The proceeding was a pre-trial matter at which Powers waived the reading of charges and penalties, according to the U-S District Court. At Thursday’s arraignment a federal public defender was appointed to represent Powers and prepare his defense as the case proceeds toward a resolution. 96.3/WGOG NEWS reported that Powers was released to the ATF for transport to the Greenville hearing. However, at the end of yesterday’s hearing, Powers was sent back to the Oconee Jail, where he’ll await disposition of his case.
