7-member Council idea resurfaces

Seneca’s member on the Oconee County Council says the next census should be a time to consider expanding council membership from five to seven members. It’s an idea that has been broached in previous years in council chambers, amidst concern that major county business can be decided by as few as three members of the current five-member council. On a motion by District Three’s Paul Cain, the council last night directed County Attorney David Root to investigate the possibility of a public referendum on raising council membership to seven members.
