A wind-driven Sunday afternoon fire in Anderson County, across Lake Hartwell from Oconee, exacted a heavy toll: three houses consumed by flame and two other houses at risk. Fire fighters from the two counties were there nearly five hours. Three of acres of woodland caught fire, requiring the use of a state bulldozer. The fire was apparently spotted just before 4 o’clock from the area of Durham Road, Fair Play. It was latter determined to be emanating from across the lake in the area of Glenn Ferry, at 300 Lee Road. Anderson County fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
