The political machinations are getting cranked up as to who Governor Haley will appoint to fill the rest of Senator DeMint’s term. Long-time Oconee Republican Devoe Blackston called Henry McMaster this morning, and kidding, greeted the former Attorney General with, “Hello, Senator!” According to Blackston, McMaster made clear he’d accept the interim appointment, should the governor offer it. Other S.C. Republicans whose names are being bandied include Congressmen Gowdy and Scott. Haley today said, “I want to make two things clear from the outset, Number one, I will not take the appointment myself. Number two, I will appoint a person who has the same philosophy of government that Jim DeMint and I share.”
